The Montgomery County Indians fought off a scrappy Paris team on Tuesday night at Clark County High in the first round of the 40th District Tournament. After playing to a 30-30 tie at half-time, the Indians shot the ball much better in the second half to come out with the victory and advance to the Championship Game on Thursday night against Clark County.
Omar Prewitt led the Indians with 28 points. He hit six 3 pointers in the contest. Tyler Fruth had 14 points. Bradley Craycraft had 9 points and a team high 6 rebounds. Andrew Mullins added 8 points. Azrey Crisp had 7 points along with 4 assists. Jake Handshoe had 3 points and Seth Dotson scored 2 points.
"I was worried about our confidence going into this game," said Coach Griesser. "After the poor offensive performance we had against Harrison County I think it took us a while to feel comfortable in our offense again."
The defensive effort in the first half was marginal at best. It seemed that Paris got most of the loose balls and rebounds. "At half-time I really emphasized that we were getting out-hustled," said Griesser. "Then early in the 3rd quarter Seth Dotson came up with 3 steals just on hustle plays. Next thing you know, Omar has hit 4 more 3 pointers and we are off to the races. It's funny how good defense leads to good offense."
"We also got good effort from Darrian Asberry and Jake Handshoe tonight," said Griesser. "Those two brought good energy and we made a run while they were in the game. When we are getting positive production from those guys and Bradley Craycraft, it is a big plus. Our depth was a strength tonight for sure."
The Indians advance to take on Clark County in the Championship Game of the 40th District Tournament on Thursday night at 7:00pm. The game will be played at Clark County High.
