Keith Griesser
Coach Keith Griesser returns for his third season at the helm of the Montgomery County basketball program. During his first season, the Indians advanced to the 10th Region Tournament Championship Game boasting a 24-8 overall record. In his second season, the Tribe advanced to the 10th Region Tournament Semi-Finals. Griesser was voted the KABC (Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches) 10th Region Coach of the Year in the 2007-08 season.
Griesser's coaching career began at Georgetown College with a student assistant coaching position under the late Jim Reid from 1994 through 1996. In 1997, Griesser was promoted to a full-time assistant coaching position with the Tigers under the direction of Coach Happy Osborne. In his first year as a full time assistant, Griesser helped lead the Tigers to their first ever NAIA National Championship. Griesser was primarily responsible for developing post players, including Montgomery County's own Billy Ray Fawns. Griesser remained on the Georgetown staff until 2003. During this time the Tigers qualified for the NAIA National Tournament every year, advancing to the NAIA Final Four on three different occasions.
In 2004, Griesser joined Coach Billy Hicks on the staff at Scott County High School. He was given the assignment of working with "the big 7'2 kid" there named Jared Carter. Carter had only averaged 2 points per game as a junior at Scott Co. but Coach Hicks knew the young man had potential. Griesser worked with Carter on a daily basis, teaching him some basic post moves and footwork drills and Jared had an outstanding senior year. After weighing his college options, Carter chose to sign a scholarship to attend the University of Kentucky over schools including North Carolina, Georgia Tech, and Illinois.
Griesser remained on the Scott Co. staff for the 2005-2006 and the 2006-07 seasons. In 2007 he helped the Cardinals to an amazing 34-2 season including a win over Huntington High when they were the #1 ranked team in the nation. The pinnacle of the season came when Scott Co. defeated Ballard High to become the KHSAA Sweet Sixteen State Champions.
Coach Griesser hails from Burlington, Kentucky where he attended Conner High School and was named All Ninth Region as a player. He attended Georgetown College and obtained a Bachelor's degree in Music Education and a Master's degree in Education. Griesser is married to Amy (Elbon) Griesser of Paducah, KY. They have three children: Emily, Luke and Grant.
